Traumatic peripheral nerve injuries (PNI) are a frequent medical problem in Switzerland. Reconstructive peripheral nerve surgery deals with the assessment and surgical treatment of injuries to the peripheral nerves and their sequelae, for instance chronic neuropathic pain. This article provides an overview on selected current challenges and opportunities in reconstructive surgery of PNI.
