The largest event in the field of pediatric surgery

The 26th Annual Congress of the European Paediatric Surgeons’ Association (EUPSA) took place from May 21–24 in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Over the years, the EUPSA Congress has grown into the largest event in the field of pediatric surgery and continues to attract a significant number of participants from outside Europe as well. Approximately half of the submitted abstracts were accepted, resulting in a diverse, innovative, and scientifically rigorous program. The congress opened with a series of pre-congress courses, including a Neonatal Surgery Masterclass, a Colorectal Course, a Laparoscopy Course, and an Oncology Course.

This year’s Consensus Statement Session focused on the management of persistent chylothorax and chylous ascites in pediatric patients. The prestigious Michael Höllwarth Lecture was delivered by Professor Ivo de Blaauw, offering an inspiring presentation on recent advances in the treatment of anorectal malformations.

The Duhamel Lecture was given by Professor Pietro Bagolan, and the Rehbein Medal was awarded to Professor Henri Ford, Dean of the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to pediatric surgery.

During the general assembly, Dr. Gonca Topuzlu Tekant from Istanbul was elected as the new President of EUPSA.

The next EUPSA Congress will take place from May 20–23, 2026 in Vienna, Austria. For the first time, it will be held as a Joint Congress in collaboration with ESPES (European Society of Paediatric Endoscopic Surgeons) and IPEG (International Pediatric Endosurgery Group).
