Basic Course in Laparoscopic Surgery at the University Hospital Basel

The learning curve of laparoscopic surgery is significantly longer compared to open surgery. Therefore, the learning of laparoscopic skills is of paramount importance. Clarunis Basel offers the “Laparoscopy Course Basel” four times a year, the oldest, regularly held basic course for minimally invasive surgery in Switzerland.

Experienced laparoscopic surgeons from Clarunis and the partner hospitals Aarau, Biel, Olten and Muri are committed to teaching young surgeons the basic handling of the minimally invasive techniques. The participants will have the opportunity to acquire basic skills in the use of instruments - essential given the technically complex procedures in laparoscopic surgery. The participants will learn all basics on the technical equipment required for laparoscopic surgery and will furthermore independently carry out an appendectomy and a cholecystectomy on a porcine model.

Course Objectives:

Participants will learn to:

  •  Familiarize themselves with all the technical equipment required for laparoscopic surgery.
  •  Use all commonly established single-use and multi-use instruments on a model.
  •  Independently perform an appendectomy and a cholecystectomy on a pig liver model.

  •  Pneumoperitoneum
  •  Laparoscopic instruments handling under video monitoring
  •  Diathermy exercice
  •  Laparoscopic appendectomy

02:00 PM          Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy
